Anna MacNeil is the Archival Research Assistant at the Beaton Institute. She is a Cape Breton University alumna (BA, Hons in History) and is currently pursuing her MA in Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. She is a former Graduate Research Fellow at the Gorsebrook Research Institute for Atlantic Canada Studies, and is a past recipient of both the David Alexander Prize (Acadiensis) and the Eugene A. Forsey prize in Canadian Labour and Working-Class History (Labour/Le Travail) for her undergraduate thesis Spirit in the Face of Decline: The Rise and Follies of Cape Breton Island, 1977-1985. She is also a past recipient of the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship, and has served as a volunteer with several heritage organizations, including the Association of Nova Scotia Museums and the Old Sydney Society.
