Allen Britten

Professor, Chemistry

Dr. Allen Britten is a Professor of Chemistry and former Dean of Science. He received his PhD from the University of Waterloo and served as Director of R&D for Antek Instruments, Houston, TX before joining CBU. He is the CBU Representative to the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. He serves as Academic Advisor to CBU Athletics. Dr. Britten was awarded the CBU Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015; was inducted into the Science Atlantic Members Hall of Fame in 2015; awarded the Ann Terry Memorial Award for outstanding volunteerism by The United Way of Cape Breton, 2015; and named CBU ‘Hotshot Prof’, The Globe and Mail, 2014. Dr. Britten’s primary research focus is in analytical chemistry. His recent work is related to the development and application isomer-specific nano-stationary phases for GC; methodology for environmental analyses including soil and water analyses for southern India; development and characterisation of bio-oils; and the study of CuO nanostructures for energy storage.
