We are hiring a Communications Co-op Student
Position summary:
The Halifax Port Authority is seeking a Communications Co-op Student for a four-month term to assist the
Communications and Marketing team with public relations, communications, social media and
administrative duties to support the department’s efficiency and productivity.
What you’ll do:
Communications:
• Monitor news and create daily media summaries for distribution to HPA staff to stay updated on
industry developments.
• Write, proofread, and edit stories and updates for both internal and external audiences.
• Create quarterly newsletters showcasing the Port’s sustainability efforts.
• Draft internal announcements and updates for the staff intranet.
• Maintain a log of public inquiries for accurate tracking, timely follow-up and consistent
stakeholder communication.
• Collect photos, stories, and information for the 2025 Annual Report.
• Attend meetings, take minutes, and follow up on action items.
• Support internal activities such as spring town hall and Safety & Health Week.
Marketing and Content Creation:
• Create written, video, and visual content for social media platforms.
• Maintain editorial calendars and content schedules.
• Design presentations or infographics for other departments.
• Support digital marketing and social media campaigns for the upcoming cruise season.
• Use design tools to create graphics and templates for marketing materials.
• Review the HPA website to ensure content is current and relevant.
Community Engagement and Events:
• Support community engagement activities, including the Port Community Liaison Committee.
• Plan and run marketing activations at the Halifax International Boat Show, including booth setup,
interactive displays, and branded giveaways to promote safe boating in Halifax Harbour.
• Assist with organizing staff events and public sessions such as the Annual Meeting and One Port
City Day.
Other:
• Attend weekly departmental meetings
• Provide general support for communications projects and other tasks as needed.
What you’ll bring:
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
• Comfortable working with photo and video content
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Communications (with a focus on Public
Relations) or Business (with a focus on Marketing) is considered an asset

Position Term
The term of this position is from January 5, 2026 to April 24, 2026.
Compensation
The compensation for this student position will be dependent on the program and year of study. The
minimum rate of this position is $20.50 per hour.
Additional Conditions
• Successful completion and maintenance of a Criminal Record Check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Pass (RAP).
