We are hiring a Planning Co-op Student

Position summary:
The Halifax Port Authority is seeking a Planning Co-op Student for a four-month term.
This position will assist the Planning Department in everyday tasks including capital project planning.
strategic development plans, analyzing key performance indicators and industry performance
benchmarks, researching terminal process flows, understanding the international, national and
regional supply chains, and working with the planning team in a collaborative environment to provide
concise documents for future planning and infrastructure construction. Be responsible for unique
design projects that relate to operations and maintenance of the Port as they emerge. Develop and
continuously improve the planning process for new business and new asset development on Port
property.
The position will work closely with Planning and Operations but will also be available to assist other
departments.

What you’ll do:
 Assist the Planning Department with a variety of tasks, including capital project planning,
strategic development, and day-to-day operations.
 Apply basic engineering principles to planning and design projects, supporting improvements
in maintenance and operational processes.
 Develop basic engineering sketches to assist with planning projects and communicate
concepts to team members.
 Review engineering drawings and compile relevant information to support team decisionmaking.
 Value Stream Mapping and process improvement.
 Develop processes and procedures around terminal operations and supply chains.
 Analyze existing processes and recommend efficiencies and improvements.
 Report writing and creation of graphics.

What you’ll bring:
 Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
 Strong organizational skills with the ability to document processes and propose practical
solutions.
 Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
 Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team
environment.
 Skilled in multitasking and managing competing priorities efficiently.
 Proficient in computer applications and digital tools relevant to the role.
 Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
 Experience with CAD, SketchUp, Surveying, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing
techniques is considered an asset.

Position Term
The term of this position is from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

Compensation
The compensation for this student position will be dependent on the program and year of study. The
minimum rate of this position is $22.50 per hour.

Additional Conditions
• Successful completion and maintenance of a Criminal Record Check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Pass (RAP).
