Relational & Restorative Book Club Project
Lead Investigator: Kristin Reimer, Department of Education, CBU
Research Assistant Opportunity
The Project: The Relational & Restorative Book Club brings together educators interested
in relational pedagogy and restorative approaches in education. Held once a week for 4-5
weeks, educators meet, in person, to discuss a book that they are reading collectively. A
new book will be selected each session from a list of those popular amongst educators,
about Restorative Justice in Education. Each week, chapters will be discussed and
educators will share their own experiences and practices that relate to the content of the
chapter. As such, the group will become a free informal professional learning experience
where educators support one another and grow together in understanding and confidence.
The first book club will take place in March and April in Sydney, NS. Research will be
conducted to understand educators’ levels of knowledge about restorative and relational
practices, and to assess the impact of such book clubs. Research activities will include
pre- and post-surveys, post-session observations, and learning circle discussions.
