We are currently looking for 8 Substation Electrical Technician Apprentices to join our Regional Operations team throughout Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Substation Training Supervisor, you will be responsible to develop skills in all aspects of substation maintenance, construction and electrical system operation while ensuring compliance with safe work methods and practices. You will be required to participate in competency-based training, regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.

You may be temporarily assigned to multiple locations across Nova Scotia throughout your apprenticeship. The first 4-6 weeks of required training will be in person and this training may be conducted at a location different from your headquarters.

Note: Candidates must upload a recent copy of their driver’s abstract in order for their application to be considered.

 

Key Elements of this role Include:

  • You will be accountable to complete the theory and practical aspects, as well as a minimum of 6000 hours in the apprenticeship program
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

  • You must have a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology (Power Discipline) or Electronic Engineering Technology.
  • You have proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills coupled with the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • Must hold a driver’s license in good standing. Candidates must upload a recent copy of their driver’s abstract in order for their application to be considered.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift 37 lbs. from the floor to shoulder level on an occasional basis and 10 lbs. above shoulder level.
  • Able to carry 37 lbs. with both hands on an occasional basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs.
  • Able to push and pull with upper and whole-body strength on an occasional basis up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform static reaching at waist to shoulder level frequently and from below waist level to overhead on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing and sitting.
