What You’ll Be Doing

The goal of CIBC’s Capital Markets business is to be the premier client-focused wholesale bank based in Canada. To deliver on this, the Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides a wide range of credit, capital markets, investment banking, and research products and services to government, institutional, corporate and retail clients in Canada and in key markets around the world.

You will join CIBC’s Capital Markets Supervision & Governance team as a Summer Analyst to support the Director and Executive Director, focusing on an effective first line of defense and surveillance for all authorized channels of communications. The principal surveillance functions of this role will focus on Equities, FICC and the Alternate Solutions Group (ASG). Primary responsibilities include monitoring of all communications to ensure adherence to code of conduct, regulatory guidance and overall brand protection in accordance with standards established by OSFI, FCAC, CIRO, CSA, CFTC, SEC and others.

  • You are enrolled in a post-secondary degree in a Business, Commerce, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics), or related program at the time of the work term, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Supervision & Surveillance – Perform a suite of monitoring activities including AML Transaction Monitoring (AMLTM), including filing Unusual Transaction Reports to Enterprise AML. Liaise with sales/traders when required, supporting the front-office.
  • Governance & Oversight –  Monitor new and changing regulatory requirements on a timely basis and assess their potential impact. Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of supervisory manuals, policies, guidelines and procedures to reflect the current regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Assessment & Consulting ­– Partner with the Associates on the team to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps and provide recommendations from a monitoring perspective for new products and services.
  • Continuous Improvement and Operational Efficiency – Be the advocate for continuous improvement in both process efficiency and effectiveness, as well as development best practices that ensure quality of work.
  • Communication and Collaboration – Assist in preparing detailed responses to address internal (business) and external (regulatory) enquiries. Escalate significant issues of noncompliance to the Director and Executive Director.
  • Relationship Building – Build and sustain effective partnership with the business. Open dialogue with Enterprise AML (2nd line), sharing findings and analysis. Frequent contact with Risk Management, Fraud, Compliance, Technology, and Internal Audit.

 

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate previous experience working in the financial sector, especially in Risk Management, AML, Compliance, Client Onboarding/ Due Diligence, etc.
  • You are passionate and demonstrate interest in capital markets and risk/compliance functions.
  • It’s an asset if you’re fluent in French.
  • You are digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies. You can easily adapt to new tools and trends and you bring excellent experience using Excel, Power BI, Tableau with the ability to program rules-based logic and manage dashboards.
