Frequently Asked Questions - Academic Advising

CBU students can book a virtual or in-person advising appointment by logging in to their Compass Student Account and selecting the green “username” icon in the top right corner, then “Program and Advising Support” from the drop down options. After booking, students should keep an eye on their email accounts for follow-up information.

CBU students are issued an official CBU Email Account within one week of confirming their seat via the email address used when their application was submitted in the future student portal. This information will be used to log into your Compass Student Account and is required to book an advising appointment and register for classes.

If you need assistance regarding your email and password, please contact IT_Services@cbu.ca.

All first-year CBU students will receive Academic Advising information via their CBU email. Students should check their inbox regularly for updates. Once students have received the advising email, they need to book an in-person or virtual appointment with their academic advisor through their Compass Student Account. Students can contact advising@cbu.ca with any questions or problems.

Please refer to your Academic Advising Email sent to your CBU Email Account. This email will have everything you need to understand which courses you should focus on registering for first. If you cannot locate this email, please contact advising@cbu.ca.

Here are some examples of when you might want to consult with an Academic Advisor:

  1. You need additional support choosing/scheduling/registering for courses or have a question that is not answered in these FAQs or your Academic Advising Email
  2. You want to discuss your academic program requirements
  3. You want to discuss changing your current program of study

When booking an Advising Appointment, students can indicate in the notes section if they would prefer their appointment be virtual.

The academic plan helps you visualize and plan your degree for the next few years. But, when you add courses to your plan, they are not added to your schedule. Instead, when searching for available courses in the current term, use the filter to view open courses. Once you do that, every course that appears should have the View Available Sections bar to click on. Click on this bar and you will see sections with an Add Section to Schedule button.
