Start Smart! is Cape Breton University’s interactive online orientation program designed to help new and returning students from all programs get familiar with CBU before stepping foot on campus.
Through a series of engaging videos featuring current students and alumni, you’ll gain valuable insights into what to expect during your first few weeks, explore key campus services, and discover the resources available to support your academic success year-round.

Completing Start Smart! ensures you’re set up for success and ready to experience everything CBU has to offer. It’s your first step toward a rewarding and memorable academic journey—and we can’t wait to welcome you (or welcome you back)!
How do I register for Start Smart?
To log into Moodle, you will be asked to provide your CBU username and password. Your username is the first part of your CBU email, without the “cbu.ca” (example: cbu12abc) and your password is the same as your CBU email password.
If this is your first time logging into our learning management system, you will see a site policy agreement. Click “yes”.
You will now be asked to self-enrol in Start Smart! There is no password or key to enrol- just click enrol and you’ll be a participant!
