Embedded certificates provide a flexible way for students to pursue specialized interests, gain additional credentials and build skills that support academic and career goals, all while completing an undergraduate degree at CBU. By taking a specified subset of courses, students can graduate with both a degree and a specialized certificate, gaining recognition for focused study beyond their primary program. Embedded certificates are open to all undergraduate students in any degree program at CBU.

Embedded Certificates

An embedded certificate is an additional academic credential completed as part of an eligible undergraduate degree program. At Cape Breton University, embedded certificates provide students with an opportunity to enhance their academic experience by pursuing focused study in a specific area while completing their degree.

Embedded certificates at CBU are comprised of 12-18 credits of coursework completed in conjunction with an eligible degree program. Some certificates may also require additional experiential pieces. Students must complete all required certificate courses and any additional certificate requirements while enrolled in their degree program. To receive the certificate, all requirements must be completed before graduation. Upon graduation, completed embedded certificates will be noted on the student transcript.

Embedded certificates are designed to be completed alongside an eligible undergraduate degree program and are not available as stand-alone credentials.
