About Role:

The main objective of this role will be to develop a “Technology Onboarding Guide” for new and returning students. This activity will be overseen by the CIO and supported by the IT Management team. Additionally, the student will be embedded in the day-to-day operations of the IT Service Desk and will be mentored/coached by a team of 5 people throughout each day. Additional supervision on small projects (i.e., install software on lab computers) will be provided by staff as appropriate.

Bi-weekly meetings will be set up to formally review the development of the main document (Technology Onboarding Guide). The student will be coached on their technical writing skills throughout this activity. Our objective in this student placement is to expose them to all facets of working in IT (service desk, application, network/infrastructure, cyber) at a high level – to increase and broaden awareness in the field, and also to help them in their future choices for IT specialty. Informal mentoring from team members and other Managers will be developed throughout the placement. The student will be included in all departmental meetings and also in any professional development opportunities that are offered to the department during their placement (i.e., Communications workshops, or EDI training)

What you’ll do:
– Field incoming phone calls, emails and walk in service requests
– Log incoming requests ticketing system
– Develop help documentation
– Develop student technology onboarding guide
– Assist IT Staff in the maintenance of computer labs and technology classrooms

Eligibility requirements:

This is an ESDC funded position and the successful candidate must meet these requirements:

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
