Title: Maintenance Technician

Position: Full Time Permanent (40hrs/week)

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:00PM

Job Location: Edwardsville, NS

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation Package: Annual salary starting at $60,000 (negotiable based on
commensurate experience and qualifications), comprehensive cost shared benefits package,

Polysteel Atlantic Limited is a local manufacturer in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, that
manufactures high tensile strength three strand synthetic rope, producing over 6,000,000 lbs
per year for the aquaculture and commercial fishing industries. Polysteel Atlantic
manufactures customized rope, structural fibre, and Safety Line and is the reason for the
company’s growing popularity in the various industries it services.

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Technician will be
responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical
systems, performing preventive maintenance, and diagnosing, testing, and analyzing the
performance and functionality of the electrical and mechanical components and systems.

Core Accountabilities:
• Maintain and repair electrical and mechanical systems.
• Install, operate, and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment and systems, such as
motors, drives, sensors, PLC’s, VFD’s, HMI’s, power suppliers, and pneumatic controls.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and systems, following technical manuals
and instructions.
• Diagnose, test, and analyze the performance and functionality of electrical and
mechanical components, assemblies, and systems, using specialized and standard test
equipment and tools.
• Assist in the design, development, and testing of electrical and mechanical components,
equipment, systems, prototypes and models.
• Calibrate electrical and mechanical equipment and instruments.
• Collect and compile operational or experimental data and assist in the preparation of
estimates, schedules, budgets, specifications, and reports.
• Update maintenance records and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Electrical or Mechanical certificate or diploma is required.
• Minimum of three (3) – five (5) years’ relevant experience is required.
• Electrical or Mechanical Red Seal Certification is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Growth mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
• Exceptional analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Knowledge and Expertise:
• Bearing theory
• Lubrication theory
• Knowledge of AC and DC circuits.
• Knowledge of schematic interpretation.
• Ability to interpret blueprints.
• Ability to interpret, troubleshoot, and wire electrical circuits.
• Ability to interpret hydraulic schematics, understand circuits, plumb circuits,
troubleshoot and repair the operation and components in those circuits.
• Ability to interpret pneumatic schematics, understand circuits, plumb circuits, and
troubleshoot and repair the operation and components in those circuits.
• Ability to proficiently use tools for analyzing and testing circuits and components.
• Knowledge of and experience troubleshooting, programming, and wiring of VFD’s, PLC’s,
and HMI’s.
• Motor theory with experience troubleshooting and wiring motors, including starter
circuits.
