Transferring into a Leadership Role [1min Read]

Before I found myself in Cape Breton I was studying at the Canadian International College (CIC) campus in Egypt. This campus offered me a CBU degree because they have a partnership with CBU which meant my program was designed and assessed by CBU faculty. I was able to start my degree in Egypt and complete my degree in Cape Breton.

After determining that I wanted to complete a marketing major I decided that completing my degree in a different culture would give me the opportunity to work with people from around the world.

In the first few weeks at CBU working on my Bachelor of Business Administration degree, I knew I wanted to get involved on campus. Once I heard about elections taking place, I decided to run as a student representative for the Shannon School of Business and was then successfully elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the CBU Council.

Since being elected I started to look at student issues and how to improve our campus. I started to work on a plan to develop the CBU campus and provide a better quality of education by offering opportunities to give students more work experience before graduating. After some time, the next step I decided to take was to run for the CBU Students’ Union Vice President position. After a lot of campaigning and community support, I was elected as the Vice president of the CBUSU for the 2018-2019 academic year.

CBU has provided me with more opportunities then I could have imagined and I would highly recommend it to any international student. It is a place to meet a wonderful community, nice people and helpful professors. CBU is not just a university, it’s my home where I am spending all of my time, where I am making new stories.
As the CBUSU Vice President, I will do my best to help every single student to achieve their goals, and help our students enjoy their time at CBU as much as I have.
