Student Public Health Inspector Two, Full-time, Summer Positions

Requirements

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has openings for two full-time, (1.0 FTE), Student Public Health Inspectors working in our Smiths Falls and Brockville Offices. These positions are being offered to individuals who have completed their academic requirements in 2019 and have not completed a student practicum. The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, services the municipalities of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Counties.
The start date is May 1, 2019 with an end date of August 30, 2019.

The goal is for the Student PHI to obtain training relevant for certification by assisting Staff Public Health Inspectors with their workload. Under the guidance of Certified Public Health Inspectors, the students will perform inspections that are judged to be commensurate with ability/experience while assuring that the objectives of the Board of Certification are being achieved.

Required Qualifications:
 Incumbent must be enrolled in an educational institution in Canada that has an approved environmental health program, leading to certification as a public health inspector;
 Demonstrated creativity and enthusiasm;
 Excellent written and oral communication skills;
 Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and flexibility;
 Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team;
 Current immunization in accordance with Health Unit Policy III_5-0_6;
 Criminal Record check;
 Class G-2 drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle;
 Must be a member in good standing with CIPHI(C).

Responsibilities

There will be field experience in the following: observation of and participation in all phases of public health inspection work; CD investigation; rabies investigation; working to assure that the objectives of the Board of Certification are being achieved, under the guidance of Certified Public Health Inspectors.

Application Details

Hourly Rate: $18.72 per hour, plus four percent, (4%), vacation pay, working 70 hours in a biweekly pay period.
