The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit have an opening for a Public Health Inspector within the Community Health Protection Department working in our Smiths Falls Office. This is a full-time, permanent status position, working 74 hours in a biweekly pay period. The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, (LGLHU) serves the municipalities of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Counties.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; those with a degree in a program of instruction approved by the Board of Certification CIPHI will be given preference;
Current Certification by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors;
Successful completion of examination for Sewage System Inspector under the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs (Part VIII and General Legal); or (within one year of hire)
Demonstrated knowledge and skill in health promotion, and illness and injury prevention strategies (individuals, groups and populations), coalition building and community partnerships;
Demonstrated knowledge of public health sciences;
Demonstrated skill in the use of community development, social marketing and public policy strategies;
Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills, with capacity to relate to a wide variety of partners internal and external;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, flexibility, leadership and decision making skills;
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and with other community agencies as well as independently with minimal supervision;
Two years of public health inspection experience within the past 5 years;
Work constructively and contribute to a harmonious and effective work environment;
Handle work in a professional manner with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality;
Strong time management and organizational skills, able to deal with many competing demands in a calm, professional and independent manner;
Solid problem-solving abilities, ability to set priorities and manage conflicting demands;
Careful attention to detail;
Knowledge and proficiency in use of the Internet and various computer programs in a Windows environment;
Current immunization in accordance with Health Unit Policy III_5-0_6, including annual influenza immunization as directed by the Medical Officer of Health;
Criminal record check;
Valid driver’s licence, and access to a reliable vehicle.
A current membership in CIPHI(C).
The successful candidate will provide public health inspection duties in a generalized multi-disciplinary health programs setting, with a focus on Ontario Public Health Standards in Environmental Health. This position reports to the Director, Community Health Protection Department.
Salary Range: $69,335.71 to $77,819.32 annual (1.0 FTE), plus comprehensive benefits package.
