RECENT AND POTENTIAL CBU GRADS – General Accountant, Financial Reporting – We’koqma’q First Nation

Requirements

  • Post secondary degree with a concentration in accounting
  • 2 plus years in a similar role or in public accounting practice
  • Aspiring CPA student, recent CPA graduate, CFE student/finalist
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office, especially Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Experience and Qualifications considered an asset

  • Experience with Public Sector or First Nation’s accounting
  • Working knowledge of the accounting software Xyntax

Responsibilities

These responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Key general ledger account reconciliations with supporting working papers
  • Month end accruals and journal entries
  • Enter in yearly budgets into accounting software
  • Run and email monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports for key stakeholders
  • Investigate variances compared to budget as needed
  • Review aged payables and receivables listing with the CFO to assist with managing cash flow
  • Liaison with year-end financial statement auditors and coordinate information needed to complete the annual audit
  • Assist in T4 preparation and reconciliation back to CRA records
  • Assist in completing financial reports needed for external funders
  • Assist the CFO with financial policy development and financial procedural implementation
