Are you interested in the vitality of your community and want to work with others to inspire change and support collaboration? The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia and partner leadership teams in Cumberland and West Hants communities are looking for Vital Signs® Student Coordinators. These roles will be responsible for the development of Vital Signs® in each community and work closely with the Vital Signs® Project Manager, local leadership teams, and stakeholders in the community.

At the end of this role, you’ll have created a Vital Signs® Report for launch in your community.


Skills and Requirements:

  1. Experience in researching, collecting and reporting data sets;
  2. A solid understanding of statistics, mathematics, and/or economics and have a high comfort level in working with same;
  3. Knowledge of local community and recommendations of the Ivany Report;
  4. Skill in organizing and supporting participation in and organization of community events;
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  6. Strong verbal and written communicator; and
  7. Technologically savvy with strong EXCEL skills and some experience in design.


Education Level: Some University in a related area

Work Term Outcomes:

  1. Print ready or near-final draft of community Vital Signs® report.
  2. Student skills development and transfer, including research and report writing utilizing critical and analytical thinking (students will need to decide whether the data makes sense, so cross-checking are required), communication of data in an accessible way, time management skills, and softer skills which are an essential aspect of success in various roles. Students will gain experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups, lead outreach, and manage a project in a time constrained environment.
  3. For communities, increased capacity for collaboration, greater local knowledge of community challenges, and identification of opportunities for collaborative action
  4. For Nova Scotia, through collaboration and a better understanding of communities, innovative solutions to community challenges may develop which can address social and economic opportunities throughout the province.


Application Details

This role pays a salary of $15.00 per hour for 37.5 hours per week beginning May 2, 2016 and ending on August 26, 2016. You must be available throughout the period of time and have access to an automobile for travel.
