Job/Project Description: Youth in Motion Assistant
The Youth in Motion (YiM) program is a long-standing program whereby 800+ Grade 4 students from all over Cape Breton Island come to CBU in order to engage with a morning of Physical activities. This assistant will work with the SPHK 2104 (Outdoor Skills and Leadership) class to design and implement a 30-minute outdoor activity, which is run 5 times/Friday over the course of 6 Friday’s in the fall semester.
The primary task of this assistant is to support 2nd year students in running their activities and assist the course instructor in the evaluation of such, based upon guidance and a rubric provided by the course instructor and their observations. In many ways the tasks for this assistant are similar to a graduate Teaching Assistant, as the assistant will act as the “eyes on the ground” observing the programming on Friday mornings and trouble-shooting any issues as they arise. They will then work with the course instructor to evaluate the program and work with the class to alleviate any problems with an eye to any possible program re-design needed in the future.
The assistant will be responsible for overseeing Friday morning activities run by the SPHK 2104 class. They will not be required to participate, but will rather observe and report back to the course instructor. Should the class have problems with their programming the assistant will be an experienced upper year student with the ability to “trouble shoot” as necessary; contacting the supervisor, course instructor, other SPHK faculty and CBU staff as required.
