Job/Project Description: SSOB Research Assistant
A student research assistant is sought for the 2015/2016 academic year. The position will involve working in the Organizational Management department of the Shannon School of Business on survey research examining leadership, entrepreneurship, and promoting psychologically healthy workplaces. Much of the work will involve studying leadership in organizations and examining how to support entrepreneurs who are starting their own businesses in the local community. Students with an interest in organizational leadership and/or entrepreneurship and with an interest in applied research are especially encouraged to apply.
The student can work in any location where they have access to a computer (e.g., campus computer lab or personal computer) and during times that fit with the students’ class schedule. The student must be available to meet with the supervisor in person on the Cape Breton University campus once per week to discuss project progress.
- Prepare ethics applications for research studies
- Prepare survey materials for a survey study
- Format data for analysis
- Conduct preliminary analyses of the results
- Carry out a review of pertinent literature
- Assist with the preparation of a manuscript
- Assist with the preparation of grants
- Training will be provided when needed
Upper year students from any academic background are encouraged to apply with the following qualifications:
- Experience using SPSS
- Completion of an introductory research methods and statistics course(s)
- Excellent writing skills
- Experience using APA formatting and style
- Previous research experience an asset
The student will work in collaboration with a faculty member and will be responsible for meeting in person weekly to discuss projects and updates. The student will be responsible for facilitating research work on various projects, at various stages in the research process.

End Date: December 2016
