Title: Culture Night Coordinator
Department: Literature, Folklore and the Arts
Organize participation in, promotion of, and resources for weekly Friday evening culture activities (play readings, coffee house and open mic, jam session, and cabaret performances). The coordinator will also help to organize an end of term cultural event.
Qualifications: Good organizational and communication skills, cheerful disposition, involvement in the arts and culture community (e.g a musician, theatre artist, dancer, etc). Marketing or event management experience is an asset.
Solicit performers/participants for the weekly culture sessions and maintain communication with participants; promote these events on campus and via social media; coordinate room bookings and set up, including equipment and food/drink as needed; be responsible for the event space throughout events; coordinate performances during events (e.g. introducing performers).
Hours: All positions are part-time, hours TBD
- Event planning and management: learn to assess the needs and challenges of different styles of performance events; identify and implement resources and event structures that will best support the artistic component while also promoting audience engagement; discover best practices with respect to adapting events in response to last minute changes (eg missing performers, venue problems). Emphasis is on analysis and problem-solving.
- Promotion and marketing: learn to design visual and social media materials that appeal to different demographics; develop good management strategies with respect to the timing and placement of promotional materials.
- Networking and communications: learn how to establish and maintain industry connections that support cultural vitality; gain personal connections with the local cultural community; discover best practices with respect to group/industry communication.
