Title: Animal Ethics Project Coordinator
Department: Department of L’nu, Political, and Social Studies

The Animal Ethics Project (AEP) seeks to raise awareness, open dialogue and foster positive social change for non-human animals. Through a combination of informal education, research and activism, the project brings together academics, students, activists, community educators and community members to work towards a more compassionate and ecologically sustainable society. The Coordinator is responsible for creating practical ways to build community engagement and facilitate educational, funding, and resource sharing opportunities.

Students from any academic background are encouraged to apply. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Website maintenance and updating experience is a requirement
  • Knowledge of WordPress would be considered a definite asset
  • Ability to work independently
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a particular interest in animal ethics and/or environmental sustainability


  • Regular updates of project’s website
  • Grant applications (finding grant opportunities and coordinating the initial grant writing)
  • Organizing resources/library for students to utilize on campus
  • Organizing infrequent speakers throughout the term (including room bookings, poster creation, social media updates related to events)
  • Researching topics for inclusion on the website
  • Attend AEP meetings
  • Seek out collaborative opportunities with community-based groups, other universities, and not-for-profits
  • Other research tasks related to the broad themes of compassion and ecological sustainability, as needed

Hours: All positions are part-time, hours TBD
Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop the capacity to work on collaborative projects that involve community and not-for-profits
  • Grant writing skills
  • Fluency in website design and updating
  • Honing research skills as related to the topics of animal ethics and environmental sustainability
  • Event planning
