These positions are appropriate for students currently enrolled in a Geoscience (or equivalent) Program. To be considered for these positions, applicants must have completed at least their second year of study, and be registered in, a Geoscience (or equivalent) program (by April 2018). They must also have a grade average of at least 60% in their geoscience courses, and must be returning to school as a full-time student in a Geoscience (or equivalent) program in the fall 2018.
We are looking for candidates who have good oral and written communication skills, are self-starting and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, sometimes with minimal supervision. Computer literacy and a demonstrated ability to acquire new computer and/or field skills are assets. Many of the positions are field-oriented; therefore, successful candidates for those positions must be able to undertake work of a physical nature and must have a valid driver’s license to fulfill occupational health and safety requirements.
Geological staff of the Geoscience and Mines Branch of NSDNR currently have several field- and office-based geoscience projects throughout Nova Scotia which require senior geological assistants for the summer. Projects include bedrock and surficial geological mapping, environmental geology, mineral inventory and metallogenic studies, geochemistry, hydrogeology, evaluation of select industrial mineral sites, and geographic information systems/geological database compilation. All positions are based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Each student’s rate of pay is established on initial appointment and based on the student’s current academic level.
Pay Grade: HOURLY
Salary Range: $16.33 – $25.34 Hourly
