BET Winter Co-op Position: Engineering Assistant, Nova Scotia Power (Lingan)

Location: Lingan Generating Station – Lingan, Nova Scotia

Start date: Immediately

Duration: January 2018 – April 2018

Hours: averaging 35 hours/week
Rate of Pay: $15.40/hour

Description:
Nova Scotia Power: Lingan Generating Station is a 620 MW Canadian electrical generating station located in the community of Lingan in Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Nova Scotia Power has been providing essential service to Nova Scotia’s communities for the past 80 years. Qualifications:
The successful candidate must:

• be 2nd or 3rd year full-time student in Bachelor of Engineering Technology in one of the following designations: Electronics & Controls or Petroleum
• be eligible/enrolled in the CBU Co-op Option and returning to full-time studies in the coming summer or fall semester.
• be eligible to work in Canada (International students must have already secured a Co-op Work Permit to apply for this position)
• possess a strong work ethic, ability to work independently
• be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done
• have strong organizational, time management
• have effective oral and written communication skills
• strong analytical thinking and strong problem solving skills
• be able to effectively carry out assigned duties
• have a valid driver’s license/own transportation to and from worksite

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist in:

  • Capital Projects
  • Processing maps and practices
  • Documenting maintenance procedures and processes
  • Conducting workplace design using CADD
  • As well as work with other departments and teams within Nova Scotia Power
