ALL CBU STUDENTS – Receptionist and Office Support, Avalon Sexual Assault Centre


Candidates must be:

  • 16- 30 years of age
  • Registered in an accredited education program full-time for 2016/2017 and must be returning to a full-time program in 2017/2018
  • A Canadian Citizen
  • Able to work full-time; 8:30 – 4:30 pm.

Candidate must not:

  • Be employed full time elsewhere
  • Have been an Avalon client in past year
  • Be related to employees and Board members of the Avalon Sexual Assault Centre


  • Degree/diploma or equivalent experience in Social Sciences or Office Administration
  • Reception experience including general support and phone training
  • Computer skills and graphic/web design experience an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong organizational, written and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and capacity to work independently
  • Knowledge of community organizations within HRM and Nova Scotia
  • Familiarity with non-profits and community based feminist pedagogy an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in working in the area of gender-based-violence/sexualized violence an asset
  • Able to work from a supportive, confidential, non-judgmental, trauma informed approached and feminist, anti-oppressive, intersectional analysis


Scope of the Position:

  • Work collaboratively with and under supervision of the Office manager and Executive Director
  • Provide reception duties
    • Greet guests/clients and direct them to appropriate appointments
    • Answer phones and direct calls to appropriate staff members
    • Respond to general inquiries re: Avalon programs and services
    • Provide general information and referral to other appropriate sources
  • Assist with day to day office duties, resource requests/ distribution, preparing reports, filing research, provide support to other staff Members as required
  • Assist with preparation of Annual General Meeting and annual Report
  • Assist with special projects
  • Other duties as required

Application Details

Position is Monday –Friday but may require some evenings/weekends
