Working Hours: 12 weeks, 35 hours per week, $13.00 Per hour.

Project & Job Objectives:
Supporting the Discovery Centre mission, the full-time Innovation Facilitator (IF) is responsible for providing an exceptional experience to every visitor to the Innovation Lab. The IF delivers guided educational programs and demonstrations, and provides an enthusiastic welcome to drop-in visitors, facilitating and encouraging their interaction with Innovation Lab activity stations and equipment. The IF maintains a safe, welcoming, creative space dedicated to hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) education and developing the skills that foster innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit. Additional objectives include providing better service to francophone visitors, and an increased use of French in the Centre.

Qualifications:

Current enrolment in a post-secondary program in a STEAM subject, Education, Communication, Information Technology or relevant field. Working experience related to interpretation, education, or recreational programming, especially those within science centres or museums. Exceptional communication skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; a genuine love of engaging with people of all ages and abilities. Computer literacy and a demonstrated interest in creative making, technology, and learning new skills. Specialized knowledge (e.g. coding, visual arts, woodworking, robotics, or sewing) an asset. Must be bilingual. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for the Young Canada Works summer employment program.

Responsibilities

Description of Tasks:

The Bilingual Innovation Facilitator works in the Science Education department under the supervision of the Innovation Lab Coordinator.
The primary tasks are:

  • To create an atmosphere of curiosity, creativity and enjoyment of STEAM topics, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit
  • To facilitate the visitor’s experience in the Innovation Lab in French and English
  • To present live demonstrations and hands-on activities in French and English
  • To maintain a safe environment for visitors
  • To work within a team orientated environment, collaborating on new initiatives
