The Cape Breton University Art Gallery works to broaden and enhance the knowledge, understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of contemporary and historical accomplishments in the visual arts. The gallery is seeking a flexible candidate with diverse strengths to assist with day-to-day, exhibition production, gallery events planning, and special projects work. The candidate will work closely with the public, but also be required to perform tasks for which an attention to detail, communication skills and technical proficiency are necessary. The candidate will gain experience and knowledge of a breadth of roles related to work in an art gallery and in general, a public cultural institution.
The Gallery & Events Assistant will work with gallery staff, programming partners and the local arts community. The successful candidate will act as a gallery attendant, working directly with the public, and generally assisting in various day-to-day gallery operations; s/he will be responsible for periodically delivering public outreach programming; s/he will assist the Curator with collections care and collections management duties; s/he will perform data organization, data-entry and data migration for the Gallery’s new digital collection management system, and continue work to update the gallery’s online library database with the contents of the Gallery’s small reference library holdings.
Position: Gallery & Events Assistant
Duration: June 5, 2017 to August 25, 2017 (12 weeks, 32.5 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: $14.00 per hour
