Project & Job Objectives:
The Bilingual Dome Theatre Presenter is a member of the Visitor Experience team responsible for the delivery of an exceptional experience for all visitors to Discovery Centre’s 65 seat dome theatre, in particular, francophone visitors. The main objective of the job is to deliver live, presenter-led shows and automated fulldome films within the theatre for visitors in both official languages. Additional objectives include providing improved service to francophone visitors, and a generally increased use of French in the centre.
One or a combination of physics or astronomy or a related field at a university level. Experience in a planetarium, museum, science centre or recreational setting is considered an asset. Experience in a front-line setting communicating with the public is required. Bilingualism in English and French (spoken) is required. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for the Young Canada Works (YCW) in Both Official Languages summer employment program. Discovery Centre is an equal opportunity employer.
Description of Tasks:
The Bilingual Dome Theatre Presenter works in the Visitor Experience department under the supervision of the Coordinator of Visitor Experience. The primary tasks are:
- To facilitate the visitor’s experience
- To deliver live, presenter-led planetarium shows and automated fulldome films
- To create an atmosphere of curiosity and enjoyment around the topic of astronomy
- To maintain a safe environment for visitors
- To work within a team orientated environment, collaborating on new initiatives
