CBUSU Scavenger Hunt Begins

Wherever you may be located around the world, join us for a 5-day Cape Breton themed virtual scavenger hunt hosted by the CBU Students’ Union.

To participate, download the app Goosechase on your mobile phone or device and search game code 8Z38WX. Prizes including a $500 tuition waiver will be awarded Sunday, September 13 to the winners.

School Orientations

School orientation is an event you won’t want to miss! It’s the perfect way to learn more about what you can expect for this upcoming semester as it relates to your specific program and school of study. Meet your faculty, instructors and classmates, as well as gain program insights,  learn about important dates and more!

School orientations will be held live via Zoom and be divided into the following sections as seen below. Meeting details for your respected school will be released prior to the event, as well as emailed to your CBU email address.

Classes Begin

Happy first day of classes, Capers! We know this year will look a little different, but we’re confident you will Thrive in this online environment.

Virtual Yoga Class

Start the first day of classes off on the right foot by joining Yellow Dog Studio in a virtual Yoga class via Zoom, at 9:00 a.m. ADT.

Virtual Bingo

Join the CBU Students’ Union at 6:00 p.m. ADT as they host a virtual bingo night via Zoom. Prizes including a $200 CBU bookstore gift card will be awarded Sunday, September 13 to the winners.

Smudging Ceremony

At CBU, it is tradition to open each semester with a smudging ceremony. We want to ensure this tradition lives on, even in an online environment. Visit CBU’s Facebook page to watch Associate Vice President, Indigenous Affairs and Unama’ki College, Stephen Augustine take us through this ceremony virtually and explain the importance behind it. The ceremony will also be available to view on our Instagram and Twitter pages.

Virtual Meet & Greet: CBUSU Executives

Join the CBU Students’ Union Executives via Zoom at 2:00 p.m ADT. This your chance to ask the SU any questions or concerns you may have about the upcoming semester, what services the SU provides or simply say hello and introduce yourself. All students welcome.

Movie Night at the Cape Breton Drive-In

All on-island CBU students enjoy a free night admission and a bag of popcorn (per card load) at the Cape Breton Drive-In.

Movies to be featured include Oceans 8 & Jumanji and begin at 8:00 p.m., gates will open at 7:15 p.m.

CBUSU Mobile Food Bank in the CBRM

If you are living in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), keep an eye out for the CBUSU Mobile Food Bank. The Mobile Food Bank will be providing food and school supplies to those in need, and can be found at the following locations:

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Glace Bay (Sterling Mall)

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Sydney (Waterfront Boardwalk next to ChillZone!)

Virtual Trivia Night

Who doesn’t like trivia? Join the CBUSU via Zoom at 6:00 p.m. ADT as they host the first of a bi-monthly Trivia Night. Play individually or form a team virtually, the choice is up to you!

Saturday, September 12

Cape Breton Island Orange Out Day

Orange Out is another favourite tradition at CBU, and no Week of Welcome would be complete without it!

This year we will be taking Orange Out on the road, ‘colouring’ the entire Island orange to welcome you to CBU! We will be giving away swag bags and snacks, while keeping social distancing and our community’s safety top of mind!
