Taylor Burton, Students’ Union Vice President of Finance and Operations, decided to become involved in the CBU Students’ Union to gain experience related to his studies, a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, and because he wanted to become a voice for his fellow CBU students.
“I decided I wanted to get involved when I learned that the Students’ Union is owned and operated by students, for students. I saw this position as a natural fit given my field of study in accounting,” says Taylor.
As Vice President of Finance and Operations, Taylor monitors budgets and spending practices, and oversees ancillary operations including the Pit Lounge and Caper Convenience. This month, he also has a hand in planning the CBU Students’ Union Pokemon Go event, taking place August 27 in the Pit Lounge.
“We’re very excited about this! It will be an all-ages event at the Pit Lounge and everyone is encouraged to wear their team colours. We will be having Pokémon themed trivia with prizes for the winning team and we will be providing lures for the entire event, as the Pit is a Pokéstop,” says Taylor. “We will also be serving Pokémon themed drinks at the bar, virgin and alcoholic. It’s going to be a fun night to socialize, to connect with your team, and of course, to catch lots of Pokémon!”
While he was first skeptical of the game that had everyone’s attention, after downloading it Taylor admits he really enjoys playing. A big fan of the show growing up, he loves the nostalgia the new Pokemon game brings, adding, “Pokémon Go encourages people to play in groups, meet new people, and explore local parks and other public places. A game like this is the kind of thing kids like me used to dream about!”
