The Shannon School of Business (SSOB) is pleased to host Canadian entrepreneur and author Barbara Stegemann as the next presenter in the SSOB Visiting Speaker Series. The talk is being held today at 7 p.m. in the Royal Bank Lecture Theatre (CE 258) in the Student, Culture and Heritage Building at CBU. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
Stegemann’s talk will focus on her journey and personal experiences in becoming a successful businesswoman. Her story will inspire people interested in owning a business and make them realize that being a successful entrepreneur is possible.
“The Shannon School of Business is committed to providing its students with enhanced learning experiences. One way in which we do this is through our speaker series. By bringing in successful business professionals from various backgrounds, we expose our students to the array of opportunities available through a business education and inspire them to set their goals high,” says George Karaphillis, Dean, Shannon School of Business.
Stegemann’s entrepreneurial vision was founded after her best friend – a soldier – was severely wounded in Afghanistan. Understanding that supporting Afghanistan’s economy was key to building stability for its people, Stegemann created The 7 Virtues Beauty – a company that sources organic oils from countries experiencing turmoil to encourage change and to reverse the effects of war and poverty.
It was clear that Stegemann had a solid business model when she landed a venture-capital deal on the CBC TV show Dragons’ Den, later becoming the Top Game Changer in the history of the show. Additionally, in 2012, she was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada by the Financial Post and was ranked as one of Profit Guide magazine’s Top 30 Cool and Fabulous Canadian Entrepreneurs.
