At the final Board of Governors meeting for 2011, CBU President & Vice Chancellor John Harker informed the Board that he will conclude his term of office in December 2012.
Harker noted that “While it is not yet time for official farewells, it is important for the Board and the campus community to be aware of my intentions. I believe that many challenges have been met, and clearly more lie ahead. I will certainly address those that I can in the months ahead.”
President Harker is currently actively engaged in the multi-year MOU negotiations between the universities and the Province of Nova Scotia. He has consistently spoken to the importance of investment in post-secondary education and in doing so, noted the need for universities to honour the public trust that comes with that investment. He cited several examples of accomplishments that have taken place at CBU over the eight years that he has been in the position of President and Vice-Chancellor and looks forward to the successful completion of others in 2012.
Advance notice of departure for senior leadership positions is common practice in academia. A process will be put in place over the coming months to seek and identify a successor.
