When it came time to choose a university, Nichelle Googoo knew exactly where she wanted to be: surrounded by friends and family. Residing in Eskasoni, Nichelle felt that Cape Breton University was the best place to begin her post secondary journey. “I chose CBU because it was close to home, and I knew I would have a lot of support from my family,” says Nichelle, first year Bachelor of Arts, Psychology student.
Upon coming to CBU, Nichelle found support not only from her family, but from the Student Services available on campus, which helped her transition smoothly from high school to university. “CBU is a great choice, especially for first year students,” says Nichelle. “CBU helps you feel comfortable and helps you figure out if university is the right place for you to be. It is absolutely welcoming and there is help available every step of the way.”
Another service Nichelle is finding useful during her studies is the Math & Science Centre, in the Student Learning Commons. She is currently studying statistics and although challenging, the Centre and Nichelle’s dedication have helped to overcome any hurdles along the way. “My most exciting moment at CBU so far was probably the time when I got back my first statistics assignment and I realized I had a great mark!” says Nichelle.
When Nichelle is not studying or visiting the Math & Science Centre, she is often volunteering at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or participating as a member of the Psychology Society, both of which are helping her work toward her goal of becoming a Psychologist.
