On Monday, May 28, 2018 CBU President, David C. Dingwall, told a crowd of more than 200 community members who gathered for a luncheon presented by the Cape Breton Partnership and NextGen Cape Breton that it was paramount that they make their voices heard as CBU continues on a strategic planning process for the Island’s only university. President Dingwall emphasized that the strategic plan is not the President’s plan, but that it belongs to all stakeholders.
The event was an opportunity for community members to hear about the early days of President Dingwall’s term, learn how they could engage in the strategic planning process, and be reminded of the impact Cape Breton University has on Cape Breton Island.
During his speech, President Dingwall highlighted the various ways in which CBU contributes as a driver of economic, social and cultural activity, affirming CBU as critical to the future prosperity of Cape Breton Island.
Reflecting on his time at the University, President Dingwall noted that CBU is a community of accomplished and seasoned faculty, dedicated staff members, a cooperative and inquisitive Senate and union representatives who are focused and unafraid to ask tough questions, combined with a talented and motivated student body.
Carla Arsenault, Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Breton Partnership, welcomed the crowd, reflecting on the sea of change that Cape Breton is currently experiencing. She noted that CBU plays an important role in creating a prosperous Cape Breton Island where future generations will want to live, work and play.
Following the remarks, it was clear that the message of promise that the university brings is shared by many.
