Cape Breton University (CBU) is pleased to host yet another Chinese New Year Celebration. Celebrating the year of the Rooster, the event will include music, dragon dancing, great food and cultural exhibitions.
CBU and the community look forward to the event each year. The event isn’t only meant for the Chinese population, everyone from the community is welcome to come and enjoy the exciting celebration.
“I consider the event to be a window for the Chinese students and the local community to communicate and gather together,” says Derek Zhang, third year Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism student from China. “I would be glad to see new friendships come out of this event and holiday. After all, when you’re new to a country your friends are the ones who keep you company. Friends become family.”
Chartwells will be providing genuine Chinese food for all of the guests. There will be exhibition tables for calligraphy, paper cutting, and much more, all with the aim sharing traditional Chinese culture with the CBU community.
This year the students on the Chinese New Year Committee plan to include even more dimensions of the Chinese culture. The performers will be incorporating both traditional and modern sides of the festival. These will include festival songs, instrumental performances, and more. But the fireworks at the end of the celebration are always the most exciting part of the night.
Join us on January 26 at 6:00 p.m. in CBU’s cafeteria for an unforgettable experience. Tickets for Chinese New Year can be requested by emailing ChineseNewYear@cbu.ca. Tickets to the event are free of charge, but are limited.
