Cape Breton University is inviting students and parents from across the Island to come out for a night of University 101, an evening focused on answering questions and providing information on everything university related. The event, themed Your Island, Your University, Your Future, will provide guests with the opportunity to see firsthand the growth CBU has experienced in the last number of years, both in infrastructure and in program options. It will take place Monday, February 6, at 6 p.m. in the new Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment (CSEE).
“The purpose of this event is for students and parents to establish a connection with the Island’s only university and to make them aware of the interesting and innovative initiatives happening right here in their backyard,” says Mora Giovannetti, CBU Marketing and Recruitment Manager.“We offer exciting opportunities to undergraduate students and this event will showcase the calibre of possibilities available to them.”
The evening will consist of a presentation on important topics that parents and students should be familiar with prior to starting university in the fall. It will provide attendees with the chance to learn more about university language, the admission process, and student life. Along with the presentation, there will be an information fairgiving students and parents the opportunity to speak with specific departments and faculty. Refreshments will be provided and student ambassadors will be present to give campus tours throughout the evening.
Representatives from all four of CBU’s academic schools, the School of Science and Technology, the School of Arts and Social Sciences, the Shannon School of Business and the School of Professional Studies, will be present at the Monday night event. Staff from the Students’ Union, the Jenifer Keeping AccessAbility Centre, Student Services, Scholarships and Financial Aid will also be in attendance. Whether students are interested in nursing, marketing, drama, getting involved in campus life, CBU support services or just want to check things out, this event will provide them with a glimpse of the CBU experience and why CBU is a university of choice for many students.
