Cape Breton University students will unite to show their true colours and march together in support of the LGBTQI+ community. Students will join the CBU Students’ Union and the CBUSU Pride and Ally Centre to participate in the Cape Breton Pride parade on Saturday, August 8, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Elizabeth Quirk, Vice-President of CBUSU states, “The Cape Breton Pride Parade is important because there are people out there, especially youth, who may feel alone. This parade shows them a strong community of people that will support them and pick them up when they are feeling down.” If dressing up in colourful clothing and marching around the streets in support of the community sounds like your idea of a perfect afternoon, join CBUSU in marching with the Pride Parade.
All future and current students, staff, faculty and alumni are encouraged to join in on the fun by waving your pride flags, wearing rainbow or CBU clothing and showing support for the LGBTQI+ community.
The setup for the parade begins at 11:00 a.m. and the parade itself begins at 12:00 p.m. There will be face paint, flags, streamers and a limited quantity of t-shirts available on a first come – first serve basis!
Participants will be meeting on Crescent Street beside Wentworth Park. The Pride Parade is one of many events that will take place during the 2015 Cape Breton Pride Week and we hope to see you there!
