CBU’s Math & Science Centre is now offering free tutoring for grade 12 students in chemistry, pre-calculus, calculus, and physics. Tutoring is offered Mondays through Thursdays between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Learning Commons located in the Marvin Harvey building. No appointment is necessary – students can simply drop in anytime between these hours.
The Centre is a collaborative environment, and its aim is to help students improve not only their skills in math and science but also their confidence and support networks. Last year was the Centre’s busiest since it first opened in 2012 with more than 1600 visits by over 300 students. The Centre has 12 tutors: 11 upper-year CBU students and a lead tutor with a Bachelor of Science as well as an education degree from CBU.
“For grade 12 students, using the Math & Science Centre could not only help them in their grade 12 classes, but could also give them a glimpse into what it’s like to be a CBU student with access to such rich supports. It could also help them become more comfortable on campus and give them an opportunity to ask upper-year students questions about being a student in our science programs,” notes Tammy Byrne, Coordinator of the Writing Centre and Math & Science Centre.
