CBU mourns the loss of Harold Schwartz – A message from the President

We, here at Cape Breton University (CBU), were saddened to learn of the passing of longtime supporter and friend, Mr. Harold Schwartz. In 2006, Mr. Schwartz became an inaugural member of CBU’s Shannon School of Business Advisory Board. For more than 40 years, his business was a cornerstone of the Cape Breton economy. As a longtime successful local entrepreneur, Mr. Schwartz contributed his vision and perspective of entrepreneurship, to the Board and University, with a local lens.

Upon his retirement from the Board, he was appointed as the first and only Director Emeritus of the Shannon School of Business Advisory Board.

Mr. Schwartz was a strong proponent of business education and his belief in community extended to serving as the President of Ski Ben Eoin, a founding member and commodore of the Dobson Yacht Club, and a passionate supporter of the arts. His philanthropy and generosity extended to many worthy causes within his beloved home of Cape Breton and beyond.

Mr. Schwartz and his wife, Diane have been outstanding friends of Cape Breton University having supported scholarships and the construction of the Shannon School of Business building. He particularly enjoyed interacting with the University’s business students and learning of their goals.

Harold Schwartz was an exemplary role model. The Cape Breton community has lost a true treasure and here at Cape Breton University we extend our sincerest sympathies to Harold’s wife, Diane and their family.

A funeral service will take place Monday, November 13, at Sydney Memorial Chapel in Sydney.
