CBU launches pledge campaign to end sexual violence

CBU Stands Up Purple Wall of SupportCape Breton University is standing up against sexual violence with the launch of a new pledge campaign. The Pledge is a personal commitment to help keep all members of the CBU community safe from sexual assault. It is a promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution.

“Sexual violence and assault is a societal issue that has been plaguing communities and campuses for far too long,” says Dale Keefe, Interim President. “I am so proud that CBU is taking charge and stepping up to lead the culture shift and create a stronger, safer community for everyone.”

The Pledge states that members of the CBU community will:

RECOGNIZE that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.

IDENTIFY situations in which sexual assault may occur.

INTERVENE in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.

CREATE an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

The CBU Stands Up campaign is part of a broader safe and respectful campus initiative that aims to change the culture around sexual violence and consent and recently saw the creation of a zero tolerance stand-alone sexual assault policy.
