Cape Breton University is celebrating the successes of 571 students during its 2011 Spring Convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. Students from 18 countries including Canada, China and Egypt are set to walk across the stage to receive degrees, diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. They will be proudly welcomed into the CBU alumni family, a family that is more than 15,000 members strong. Honorary degrees are being conferred upon two well-deserving individuals – Joella Foulds and Dr. Joseph Schwarcz.
Cape Breton University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. John Harker notes “This year’s graduates join the thousands of CBU alumni who have left campus to affect change economically, socially and developmentally in communities around the world, and I expect this same impact to be made by the Class of 2011. This ceremony not only signifies the accomplishments of our students and exceptional honorary degree recipients, it also recognizes the support that is provided by family and friends throughout this great journey.”
Cape Breton University is honoured to celebrate the accomplishments and careers of Joella Foulds and Dr. Joseph Schwarcz by presenting each with an honorary degree. As the 2011 Spring Convocation Valedictorian, Wolfville, N.S. native Stephanie Bagnell, reflects back on her experience at Cape Breton University and knows that she made the right choice. “The people you meet through your life and at university truly help you evolve as a person and help you grow into who you are. All of the people that I have had the opportunity to work with and the friends that I have met here at CBU through my involvement, are what made me get through and helped to give me the ultimate CBU experience,” says the Bachelor of Business Administration graduate.
