CBU Board of Governors Announces New Chair

At a public meeting held on Friday, June 16, the Cape Breton University Board of Governors announced Robert Sampson, Q.C., a Founding Partner of Sampson McPhee Law Firm, as its new Chair.  Sampson has served three years on the Board and will succeed outgoing Chair, Ambrose White. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent re-appointment of Annette Verschuren as Chancellor of Cape Breton University.

“It is a great honour to serve on the Board of Cape Breton Island’s only university. As Chair, working with my Board colleagues, I am committed to strengthening relationships Island-wide and working with University leadership to continue to build on the good work underway at CBU. It is an important moment in the history of Cape Breton University and I am pleased to be actively engaged at this time,” says Sampson.

The Presidential Search Committee has selected Odgers Berndtson as the Executive Search Firm that will assist with the process to select the next president of CBU. Odgers Berndtson will work with the Committee to design the consultation process, with a candidate recommendation being made to the Board of Governors no later than January 31, 2018.

To keep people updated on the search process and to inform them of opportunities to participate, a presidential search website has been created. There will be multiple opportunities for people to be involved in the search process, starting with a community survey that is now live on the website. Future town hall sessions are being planned and dates for those events will be posted to the website as they become available.

“The task that lies ahead for the committee is extremely important to the future of Cape Breton University and our Island. The decision of who should be the next president of CBU is not one that we can make alone. The insights and opinions of our community members are key to this process and we strongly encourage those interested to participate via the online survey or during future town hall sessions,” says Sampson, who also Chairs the Presidential Search Committee.
