Screaming Eagles’ fans can expect a sea of orange to take over Centre 200 for the 7th Annual CBU Night at the Nest on Wednesday, February 16. Joined by the Orange Army, CBU alumni and friends will boisterously support the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles as they battle the Shawinigan Cataractes starting at 7 p.m. Cape Breton University will also recognize eight Screaming Eagles players, who study part-time at the University, for their commitment to education.
Brad Cuzner, Morgan Ellis, Wes Herret, Taylor MacDougall, Cory MacIntosh, Spencer Metcalfe, Andrew Hayes and Derek Larade will be acknowledged prior to the game by CBU President, Dr. John Harker. “These young gentlemen mirror the example that all our dedicated student-athletes set here at CBU, making them wonderful role models for youth in the community,” says Harker. “They have made education a top priority and I commend them for their hard-work and leadership.”
The event is filled with excitement and entertainment, and is especially valued by CBU’s international community because for some of them it is the first Canadian hockey game that they will attend. This year, approximately 100 international students are expected, with students from China, Saudi Arabia, India and Kazakhstan – dressed in traditional clothing – joining President Harker on ice for the pre-game ceremony. William Yawei Zhang of Beijing, China is set to drop the ceremonial puck. Also, Rachel Conlan, Siobhan Keane, Alan Reid and Geza Frank, who are all on exchange from Ireland, will perform live in the main concourse throughout the evening – a musical experience that is not to be missed.
“The CBU Alumni Association continues to provide its members with opportunities to support their alma mater and community, and is a platform for alumni to extend their reach beyond their personal network,” says Keith MacDonald, President, CBU Alumni Association. “We have an active schedule throughout the year and CBU Night at the Nest has become a highlight as it is a fun evening for the entire family. Our diverse and growing family enhance our events and I expect it will a night enjoyed by all.”
The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. in the MacDonald Room at Centre 200 giving attendees an opportunity to get hyped-up for the game. Orange Army t-shirts will be provided to all CBU Alumni ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis.
