CBU Alumna Owns Franchise after Competing in Dragon’s Den Contest

It didn’t take long for this recent Shannon School of Business graduate to hit the ground running. Jennifer Howarth, BBA ’11, was awarded a PropertyGuys.com franchise in Oakville, Ontario as a result of her success in the “Y-Preneur Challenge” in November 2009. Jennifer was one of three finalists chosen to go to Toronto and make a presentation in front of a live audience of 600 to CBC’s “Dragons Den” stars, Arlene Dickinson and Jim Treliving, and PropertyGuys.com Inc. president Ken LeBlanc. The contestants had to present a case on why they should be the winner of a PropertyGuys.com franchise, and Jennifer’s enthusiasm and passion for leadership led her to win the contest; she is now considered one of Canada’s most promising young entrepreneurs.

After winning the “Y-Preneur Challenge”, Jennifer returned to CBU to continue working towards her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Aside from studying hard, Jennifer also made major contributions on campus while holding the position of Vice-President Student Life on the 2010-11 Students’ Union Executive. One of her many accomplishments was organizing CBU’s Orientation Week 2010 which was a big success! Originally from the Oakville region of Ontario, Jennifer became a full-fledged CAPER, spreading enthusiasm and Caper pride among her peers. At the Spring 2011 Convocation Awards Banquet, Jennifer was the recipient of The Allister McIntyre Memorial Trophy and Scholarship, nominated by the Students’ Union, for a student with an outstanding record in leadership, scholarship and character.

Currently, Jennifer is enrolled in training for new franchise owners at PropertyGuys.com University (PGU). She will open her business in Oakville later this month. PropertyGuys.com is Canada's largest and fastest growing private sale franchise network. It has over 100 locally-owned franchise locations to assist home buyers in more than 600 communities across Canada.
