The CAPERS Men’s Rugby team claimed the 2017 Wood Cup this past weekend when they defeated St. Francis Xavier in the Nova Scotia Division II Championship. With a final score of 46-14, the CAPERS earned the right to advance to the Maritime Final being held next weekend in New Brunswick.
“It was a really well-rounded effort by every single person on the team,” says Patrick Azer, Club President and BBA student. “Everyone played their role exactly how they needed to. There’s a huge feeling of excitement in what we’ve accomplished.”
The team will continue to practice this week before they head to New Brunswick to take on UNB.
“There are many players and coaches who have been with us over the past couple of years who have hugely contributed to the process of the team’s improvement and they all deserve part of the credit for what we’ve accomplished this year, says Acer. “That being said, I think this year’s group of guys is not only the biggest, most athletic and most skilled group of guys we’ve had since I’ve been on the team, but also the most tight-knit. The feeling of being a family who trains together, battles together at game time, and sticks together no matter what we face; that’s what makes this team so special in my view.”
Acer also gives credit to Head Coach Marcus Cookson, saying, “The coaching experience and effectiveness of Marcus has been a huge highlight this season. He knows the game well, has clearly implemented an effective game plan, and is the kind of coach everyone on the team really wants to go out and play for.”
Help us cheer on the CBU Rugby team as they head to the Maritime Finals next weekend. Go CAPERS Go!
