Cape Breton University (CBU) is welcoming students and parents of CBU’s Class of 2017 for University 101 – Everything University Related. Themed Your Island. Your University. Your Future, this event provides an opportunity for incoming students to get informed, ask questions and become familiar with their hometown university. The event is taking place on Wednesday, February 6 at 6 p.m. in the Verschuren Centre.
“Last year’s event received a great response from parents and students and we expect the same this year. Educating students on university life – from academics to campus life – is a priority for our department. We want to make the transition from high school to university a seamless one and make students fully aware of the opportunities that await them at Cape Breton University. Opportunities that they can take advantage of close to home,” says Mora Giovannetti, Manager, Marketing and Recruitment.
The evening will include a presentation on important topics that parents and students should be familiar with prior to starting university in the fall, such as university language, the admission process and student life. An Information Fair is being held to give students and parents an opportunity to chat with staff, faculty, current students and alumni. Refreshments will be provided and student ambassadors will be present to give campus tours throughout the evening.
Representatives from the School of Science and Technology, the School of Arts and Social Sciences, the Shannon School of Business and the School of Professional Studies will be present at the Wednesday night event. Members from the Students’ Union, the Jennifer Keeping AccessAbility Centre and Student Services will also be on-site.
Whether students are interested in nursing, marketing, drama, getting involved in campus life, support services, student exchange opportunities or just want to check things out, this event will provide a glimpse of the CBU experience and give them a sense of why CBU is a university of choice for many students worldwide.
