Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton University Faculty Association are pleased to jointly announce that through negotiations with the aid of a provincial conciliator early this morning agreement in principle has been reached on Article 39 (the layoff clause), which has been the major point of contention leading to the threat of job action by faculty.
“We are very much encouraged by the significant progress that has been achieved in recent talks between the employer and the faculty association,” says Andrew Reynolds, CBUFA Communications Chair. “We are hopeful that this momentum continues into the weekend and results in a tentative agreement. As a result of this progress CBUFA will not be filing notice of strike action for Monday.”
“We are pleased to inform our students and the CBU community that there will be no strike action on Monday,” says Dale Keefe, Interim President. “We know that this news comes as a relief to students as they work toward their academic goals.”
Further details will be announced in the coming days.
