Political Science student Brandon MacDonald chose CBU to be close to family, and because of his love for Cape Breton. Since starting at the University five years ago, Brandon says the people at CBU – both staff and students – have become family to him. Because of this, Brandon decided to take on the role of Executive Vice-President of the CBU Students’ Union.
“I’ve attended CBU for so long and I’ve appreciated it for a long time,” says Brandon. “CBU has given me a lot of opportunity to get involved and I want to give back; I want to help other students like other students that helped me, and I feel playing a role in the Students’ Union is one of the best ways to do it.”
This month the Students’ Union is planning an event that Brandon says will be fun for everyone. In light of the popular new game, Pokemon Go, there will be a Pokemon Go themed night held on campus at CBU’s Pit Lounge. “Whether you’re Valor, Mystic, or Instinct, wear your team colours and come out, catch some Pokemon and enjoy trivia and a themed drink,” adds Brandon.
The Pokemon GO event is planned for August 27th from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Pit. It is all ages with a $5 cover to get in. “We will be providing players with lure modules at the Pokestop for the entire duration of the event, and will also be hosting Pokemon themed trivia with some prizes, so start thinking back to the old games and television show for that!” says Brandon. “In addition we also have starter Pokemon themed drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) where the drinks evolve just like Pokemon do!”
A fan of the Pokemon franchise since he was a kid, Brandon is a big supporter of the new game. He says the game promotes exercise, a strong social component between players and a sense of comradery for players on each of the three teams.
