As summer heats up, the Bachelor of Education Program at CBU is winding down for another year, with education students preparing for their upcoming fall convocation. Nadia Ross is one prospective graduate who is ready to start making her mark on the world of teaching.

Nadia started her CBU story in September of 2013 when she enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies program. After completing her undergraduate program at CBU, Nadia was eager to return to the comfortable campus to pursue her B.Ed.

As a child, Nadia would set her room up like a classroom and teach lessons to her stuffed animals. As she grew up, other career ideas came and went, but becoming a teacher was the one path that always kept her interest. Now, in the last month of her B.Ed program, Nadia says she cannot imagine herself in any other profession.

During the 16-month program, Nadia learned the importance of looking at things from multiple perspectives. “What I enjoyed most about the program was how much I learned about different cultures, especially Mi’kmaq culture,” says Nadia. CBU offers B.Ed students the option to complete their degree with an Aboriginal/Indigenous education concentration through four specialty courses, which Nadia opted into.

“That option really sets CBU apart from other universities. I’m so glad that I made that choice,” says Nadia.

With convocation only a few months away, Nadia says she would recommend the B.Ed. program at CBU to anyone interested in the field. Her advice to students considering a career in education is to make sure they’re going into the field for the right reasons. “Until you actually see what a teacher does during a school day, you can’t even begin to appreciate the career,” says Nadia.

Nadia says she is extremely thankful for her time here at CBU, and looks forward to her future as an educator. Following graduation in November, Nadia plans to gain teaching experience at home in Margaree by substituting for local schools in the surrounding communities.

We are so #CBUProud of your hard work Nadia!
