Lights up! It’s time to shine at Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Playhouse. The Boardmore Theatre will hold auditions for its 41st season of plays, on Saturday, September 17 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, September 18 from 1p.m. – 5 p.m. by appointment only.
Auditions and registration will be held for actors (ages 13+), singers, technicians, stage managers and stage crew. Actors are to prepare one contemporary monologue, one to two minutes long, and a short song. They are also asked to provide a recent resume and photo. Non-actors should fill out a registration form indicating special interests. Volunteers are welcome and needed for all aspects of theatre production.
The 2011-12 season of plays is sure to be one of the best yet, with acts including Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Norm Foster’s The Last Resort, and The Elizabeth Boardmore One-Act Play Festival.
Boardmore Theatre Artistic Director, Todd Hiscock couldn’t be more excited about this season’s line-up. “In keeping with the tradition of producing high quality productions, this year’s season will be one of our best at the Boardmore Playhouse. A variety of genres, including Classical, Modern Drama, Farce, Theatre for Young Audiences and original work, will provide a spectacular theatrical experience for every audience. I strongly encourage anyone interested in live theatre to come out and audition or sign up for backstage work,” says Hiscock.
The Boardmore is also bringing local talent to the playhouse with the New Play Development Workshop. Original plays (finished or unfinished) must be submitted by September 30 for the New Play Development Workshop and One-Act Play Festival. Published plays for the One-Act Play Festival must be submitted by November 31.
