Cape Breton University students continue to excel in their field and inspire those around them – CBU Shannon School of Business students, Monica Matheson and Tim Damon are perfect examples of this.
‘Are You Smarter than a CEO’ is a business competition based out of Atlantic Canada. Real businesses within the Atlantic Provinces submit actual challenges and problems that they need help solving. Business students all over the region are invited to submit a five minute video pitch for the company of their choice. Each business owner will evaluate the submissions and select one as the winner. The winning team for each case is awarded $1000.
This year, the following businesses consisted of: Xona Games, Mad Rock Marine Solutions Inc, Olivier Soaps, and Prince Edward Distillery. Four teams were to be chosen, one for each business.
Tim and Monica selected Prince Edward Distillery as the business to develop a strategy for. The direction they chose was a unique branding strategy in order to create a pull for the company’s product.
A lot of time and effort was put into this successful project. “After setting up our props, which included cocktail glasses consisting of blue Gatorade and ruffle potato chips on the edge of each glass, over an hour of filming, and a few hours of editing, our video was ready for submission,” says Tim.
On March 16 the students were informed that they had won the Distillery case and would be recognized during a ceremony at St. Mary’s University.
“Monica and I feel a great sense of pride at being selected as one of the winning teams and are excited by the recognition CBU will receive as a result of our effort,” he says.
